Thursday, 8th May, 2025 – Terra Incognita: The origin and discovery of the continent of Antarctica
Jeremy Dwight, a trustee of the Chislehurst Society, will talk of his recent trip to one of the most inhospitable places on earth.

Antarctica holds 70% of the world’s fresh water, experiences -89°C temperatures, and some regions haven’t seen rain for millions of years. Katabatic winds reach over 200 mph, and it’s home to 20 million penguins, but no human settlements. Icebergs the size of cities break from its ice shelves, highlighting its ever-changing landscape.
