NEW PUBLICATION
In 1982, a patchwork was found in the attic by the new owners of a cottage in Crown Lane in Chislehurst, Kent.
What is unique about this patchwork is that the fabrics used to create the front of it are of working class origin, whereas the cardboard templates on the reverse, are from a well-to-do individual living in Chislehurst in the 1890s.
As Eleanor Burkett and Kathy Baker take a closer look, they share what the patchwork reveals about the way Chislehurst society functioned in the 1890s.
