Discover the Magic of the Chislehurst Bear Trail

What began as a light-hearted community initiative during the challenging days of the Covid-19 pandemic has blossomed into one of Chislehurst’s most beloved attractions—the Chislehurst Bear Trail. This whimsical journey through local woodlands and landmarks invites residents and visitors alike to reconnect with nature, art, and a sense of playful discovery.

The trail’s popularity soared after Will Lee, the European Chainsaw Carving Champion, transformed a fallen log in Walden Woods into a stunning sculpture known as The Boating Bears. His intricate and imaginative work captured the hearts of many and sparked a creative vision in Chislehurst Society Trustee Alison Stammers. Inspired by the joy the sculpture brought to the community, she imagined a trail of bear carvings hidden throughout the area—each one waiting to be discovered.

Today, that vision has come to life. With 35 unique bear sculptures tucked away across Chislehurst, the Bear Trail offers a delightful adventure for all ages. From the serene paths of Scadbury Park and Hawkwood to bustling local railway stations, schools, and historic churches, each bear has its own story and setting.

Whether you're a local looking for a fun weekend activity or a visitor eager to explore the charm of Chislehurst, the Bear Trail is a perfect way to enjoy the outdoors and uncover hidden gems in the community.
