Q. Hello, my business currently operates out of the Chislehurst business centre on Bromley Road. Next year we are celebrating 20 years of trading and providing employment at the centre. To mark the occasion I’m trying to uncover something of the history of the building we work in but I’m not very good at this sort of research. Have you anything that might help?
A. This enquiry has already thrown up some fascinating material from papers of Tom Bushell, Edwardian Chislehurst and the School Logs of St Nicholas. We have learned something of the Thornton family, Russian merchants who originally lived in Sunnymead and of Sir Ness and Lady Wadia, generous residents during WW1. We have a drawing (shown above) by the architect Joseph Moye and will write a fuller article when more detail is confirmed.
