Exciting William Morris find – a frieze hidden for 80 years or more!

The Society’s History team is ecstatic!

Researchers led by Catherine and Alan Fyfield with Joanna Friel, invited Carien Kremer, Curator of the William Morris Gallery, Walthamstow to visit Bullerswood.

Archive photographs and a chance conversation with one of the school vice principals lead to an amazing discovery. Peeling back painted paper Carien discovered the original Morris frieze, hidden most likely since 1930!!

Now the journey of conservation begins.

Roger Huddle, also from the Gallery, was with us to share this amazing moment. He is our speaker on 4th September 2.30pm at the Methodist Church – ‘William Morris and the Chislehurst Connection‘!
